Like most of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films, Padmaavat had a very stormy pre-production and pre-release history. Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone had been finalised for the two main parts, when suddenly Ranveer had second thoughts.

This is when SLB went to Shah Rukh with the offer. At that point of time the project was titled Padmaavati . When Shah Rukh heard the title he said he wouldn’t do a film named after the heroine.

When Deepika heard what SRK’s pre-condition for doing the film was, she threatened to walk out if the title was changed. Luckily (for Ranveer, that is), the cast confusion was cleared and Ranveer was on board again .

Apparently a filmmaker who was mentoring Ranveer, had advised him to not do a villain’s role.

Ironically the title of Padmaavati had to be ultimately changed to Padmaavat, and SRK had nothing to do with it.

Deepika has done three back-to-back films with Sanjay Leela Bhansali: Goliyon Ki Raas Leela Ramleela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat. In each she was exquisitely presented. We look forward to seeing more of her in Bhansali’s cinema.
