On Friday, December 9, three new movies had released. Kajol starrer ‘Salaam Venky’ was the bigger release of the lot since it had a known star like Kajol. Hence the film has performed better than the other two releases – ‘Maarrich’ starring Tusshar Kapoor and ‘Vadh’ which has Sanjay Mishra and Neena Gupta.

Having said that, ‘Salaam Venky’ has done poorly and managed to have a collection short of 1 crore over the first weekend. This Revathy film clocked in 85 lakhs on the weekend as per trade website boxofficeindia.com. Meanwhile, the collections of ‘Maarrich’ and ‘Vadh’ are below 50 lakhs.

The releases from the previous weeks – ‘Bhediya’ and ‘An Action Hero’ are doing much better than the new ones. Varun Dhawan starrer ‘Bhediya’ collected 4 crore on its third weekend and that brings its collection to about 54 crore. The collection could have been even low if the newer releases had done well. This third week collection is touted better than that of films like ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ and ‘Vikram Vedha’ in recent times.

Meanwhile ‘An Action Hero’ made about 1.5 crore. The total collection of the film is below 10crore still. ‘Drishyam 2’ is leading the race and the film entered the 200 crore club in its fourth weekend.
